O.K., I admit it. I'm a little less confident than I was two days ago. NOT because I think Sarah Palin is a good choice, but because the media may play her as a good pick. But instead of fretting, I'm going to do something.
Our best shot to turn this into a net negative reflection of McCain's judgement will come October 2nd at the Vice Presidential debate moderated by Gwen Ifill.
Sadly, Biden may refrain from tearing her a new one because of chivalry, or cowardice or some combination of the two. I hope not -- the concept of "I don't hit girls" should not apply to political/rhetorical hits.
But if he decides to play good cop and manages not to slip-up, i.e.; "She's clean, articulate, good-looking..." (entire audience slaps head), then it's up to moderator Gwen Ifill to ask the hard questions. I have one I'd like her to consider asking the Gov. (which I will e-mail to Ms. Ifill, and hope many others will e-mail similar suggestions) below the fold...please add yours in the comments, and/or e-mail her with your own: http://www.pbs.org/...
- Governor Palin: It's been suggested that you were selected in part as a reaction to the failure of Senator Obama's campaign to name Hillary Clinton his running mate. You are making an overt play in your speeches and campaign appearances for her supporters, referencing "18 million cracks in the glass ceiling". However, Senator Clinton has decades more experience and has long been closely associated on a national level with championing the causes of Children's health and Universal healthcare in addition to having a vast resume on foreign affairs. Also, her positions on nearly every major issue of the day are at odds with you and your party's professed positions. Could you address those supporters now, some of whom may be inclined to support you -- from a political standpoint, what similarities are there between you and Senator Clinton besides your gender?
I think ONLY Ifill could ask this without backlash....maybe Bill Maher, but unfortunately, he got passed over this cycle...
